Me and Silas – 2015 Fun Run

I am an avid runner and love races!  In 2015 alone, I ran 11 Half Marathons, 3 Full Marathons, and lots of smaller distances races with a few OCR’s thrown in. All together I logged over 1000 miles in 2015! 🙂

One of my favorite races in 2015…wait who am I kidding…I loved them all! Seriously tho…one of my favs was the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington DC. I ran for the Burma Humanitarian Mission which made the training and race even more memorable. Read all about the cause here.

Update 9/2017: Still running! Currently training for the New York Marathon in November 2017 and logging more miles than ever. My 2017 goal is to crush the Run the Year Challenge and run 2017 miles! As of 9/20/17, I am sitting at 1545 for the year and am going strong!

Running became a passion for me after I had my son in 2010.  I was overweight from the pregnancy and wanted so badly to get back to a healthy size. My mom suggested running so I found a run/walk program that would ease me into it.  Within 90 days I had shed 60 pounds and was feeling amazing!

While I have kept off most of the weight, I still tend binge on my favorite foods like Mexican and pizza.  I think it’s important to be able to have those favorite foods, but I also need to learn moderation and how to stop when I’m full.  Which is tough because I love chips, salsa, and CHEESE dip!

My son Silas loves to run too! He did several 1 mile fun runs this year and even got a first place finish! I love to see families working out together! Teaching children the importance of being active when they are young will help them live a healthy lifestyle. But you can’t just tell them…you have to show them!
